About This Role
Cognizant is seeking a specialized Data Scientist – Healthcare AI to build machine learning solutions for Cognizant's healthcare and life sciences clients — applying AI to clinical decision support, population health management, drug discovery, and payer analytics for global healthcare organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop ML models for clinical outcomes prediction, hospital readmission risk, and chronic disease management for healthcare provider and payer clients
- Build NLP models for clinical note analysis, ICD code extraction, and medical literature mining using transformer-based medical NLP models (BioBERT, ClinicalBERT)
- Develop population health analytics and segmentation models for payer value-based care programs
- Apply survival analysis, time-series models, and longitudinal data methods to analyze EHR and claims data
- Ensure HIPAA/PHI compliance in all data handling and model development activities
- Collaborate with Cognizant's healthcare domain experts, clinical informatics specialists, and client medical teams
Requirements & Skills
- B.Tech/M.Tech/M.Sc. in CS, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or a related field
- 3–6 years of data science experience — healthcare AI, clinical analytics, or life sciences ML is strongly preferred
- Strong Python/R skills with experience in healthcare data formats (HL7, FHIR, ICD codes, SNOMED)
- Experience with medical NLP, clinical text processing, or biomedical ML is highly valued
- Knowledge of HIPAA, PHI handling requirements, and healthcare data governance is important
